Our Foundation Course is suitable for puppies (once vaccinated) and dogs of any age and will give you the core skills you need to train your dog, including lifeskills, relationship-building, impulse control and how to maintain focus on the handler even with the distraction of other dogs and people.

 

This 8 week course has a maximum of 6 dogs per class and is progressive over the weeks. Each lesson is 45mins -1hr. With reward-based training you will build up your skills and cover the following:

 

• Reward-based training methods, marker words and how to shape behaviours

• Attentive response to name / focus / watch cue

• Loose lead walking 

• Jumping up - teaching an automatic sit when greeting someone

• Positions - sit, down, stand

• Recall games - with distractions and how to build up in real life situations

• Food manners, door manners and impulse control

• Toy play / swap / giving up a toy

• Settle on a mat

• Wait / stay 

• Working around distractions

• Handling, grooming and care 

• Confidence and resilience in new situations 

 

Each class has its own Whatsapp group where we will share homework sheets and info before and during the course. 

We are also a Royal Kennel Club listed club and offer the Good Citizen Puppy Award as part of your training if you wish to take part (no extra cost).

 

After the 8 weeks we offer follow-on training as part of our regular classes and we recommend that you continue with your training to develop and proof the skills that you’ve started to learn. We also offer other training including agility, hoopers, rally obedience and scentwork once your dog has some core skills around other dogs. 

 

The cost of the course is £120 for the 8 weeks. If you would like to reserve a space on our course please pay a £20.00  non refundable deposit, the remainder is due 2 weeks before your course starts.
